| 2024 was an eventful year as I continued creating my ongoing portfolio, My Trinity is a Fortress, about building home and family around animal companionship. Previously, I struggled to have the series recognized in exhibitions and publications dealing with topics of family, domesticity, partnership, and guardianship. Photography that includes depictions of animals is often associated with the primal or the whimsical. I’m excited to report that in 2024 this all changed and my work was included in several exhibitions that celebrate familial and domestic themes. It was a thrill to see my portfolio displayed alongside archetypal depictions of family! My 2024 exhibitions began with inclusion in Rework It: Women Artists on Women’s Labor, at Mattatuck Museum in Waterbury, CT. This exhibition was curated by Chief Curator at The Mattatuck Museum, Keffie Feldman and Natalie DeQuarto. It was a declaration of the many types of labor women are often expected to manage and featured artwork from approximately 30 contemporary female-identifying artists including Judy Chicago, Lorna Simpson, and The Guerilla Girls. As part of the programming for this exhibit, the museum invited me to deliver an artist talk titled Photographic Storytelling Through a Feminist Lens. During this lecture I recounted my personal journey through photography, self-discovery, and storytelling spanning 30 years. Being invited to be part of these events at The Mattatuck Museum was the highlight of my year. Additionally I had the honor of participating in these exhibitions: Poetry of the Ordinary, PhotoPlace Gallery, Middlebury, VT Domesticity, Conversations With Artists, Online Exhibition Meditations on Being a Phoenix (solo exhibition), Cylinder Gallery, PhotoSynthesis, East Hartford, CT Family Ties, SE Center for Photography, Greenville, SC Wonder, Center for Fine Art Photography, Online Exhibition In addition to these exhibitions I am included as a featured Artist in Edition 10 of Analog Forever Magazine!
